How I increased web traffic by 1000% in two months

SEO

Short answer: bloody good SEO.

I was working on a site that had been established for a while, but had been languishing in searches, out of sight, way down past page twenty for major keywords.

This isn’t unusual. Most of my conversations with new clients go like this:

‘I’d really like more sales.’

Ok, great. What are you doing so far?

‘Mostly posting on social media

And what about SEO?

And then there’s usually deathly silence and shifty eyes.

Let’s get this straight, social media is great, it’s a fantastic tool to showcase what you do and build a community. But the thing is, and the major thing is, when it comes to searching for a product, or a service, it’s search engines that win the race.

Kenshoo reports: Although Google does not share exact numbers, as reported by SEOTribunal.com, Google handles 3.8 million searches per minute on average across the globe. That comes out to 228 million searches per hour, 5.6 billion searches per day, or 2 trillion searches per year!

That’s a lot of searches. And that’s a hell of a lot of searches that you aren’t utilising.

The site I was working on, hadn’t been optimised for SEO, in any way, shape or form. You may have the most amazing product in the world or the most beautiful website, but that means zilch if no one can find you.

Once I’d nailed down the right keywords, and run an audit on my client’s site and competitors, I set to work getting down and funky with their SEO. It took a while, it took the right steps and it took both on and off-page tactics to nail it.

And nail it we did. Within two months they’d winged their way out of oblivion, and enjoying the bright light of page one of Google. They went up a whopping 1000% in web traffic, and better yet - sales increased too. Happy days!

And this is what good organic SEO is all about. It’s not magic tricks, or black hat techniques (hello Google prison). SEO takes time, it takes to research and it’s absolutely worth investing in.
