3 things you need to do before you can start your website design
What do you want your website to achieve?
This is the very first question you should be asking yourself, before anything else - what is your website for? Do you have products to sell, services to promote, a portfolio to show off or a blog you want people to read? Whichever it happens to be, you need to consider this before moving onto the next steps. It’s a good idea to take a look around the internet, and get a feel for the sort of website you’d like. Jot down design elements you like, or layouts, and include the ones you don’t as well. These are all valuable elements when it comes to designing the website of your dreams.
Content
Now you have an idea about the kind of website you’d like, its now time to think about the content. When it comes to designing a website, it’s really helpful for us designers, if we have an idea about how much content you have. We can then design a site that can fit, rather than trying to shoehorn it all in. Think about what you can offer your customers - what do they need? How do you solve that for them? Content should be clear and concise; if you are struggling to write it, think about hiring a copywriter to do that for you, as this could make or break a potential customer getting in touch.
Images
As with content, it’s ideal to get this in place before heading into a web build. Use the above steps to think about how you’d like to show your business visually. It’s worth hiring a professional to take photos for you, to really showcase your business. If you don’t have the budget right now, that’s fine, there’s plenty of free stock image sites, such as Unsplash you can use. When it comes to collecting images, make sure you have lot’s of different options for each page, you can never really have enough to pick from!
