So, can I get to the top of Google?
The million-dollar question, can I get to the top of Google?
Sadly, this isn’t a simple answer. But you will find many SEO companies claiming that they can get you to the top of Google in a matter of weeks. My favourite is a company claiming to get you to the top of page one, and being on page two themselves. Oh dear.
As an SEO consultant, I will never claim to get you to the top of Google, though it is my aim to get you there.
So, why shouldn’t you listen to those who say they can?
Because it’s not up to us. When it comes to search rankings, it’s up to Google to place you where they see fit. What is up to us, is listening to what Google wants, and doing it. This means using white hat SEO techniques, consistent SEO practice, and most importantly - ongoing SEO.
Further to this, we need to consider why we get to the top of Google. Is it for your keywords or keywords that aren’t relevant to you? If it’s the latter, then that will do more harm than good - leading traffic to your site, using incorrect keywords is black hat SEO - you’ll also get a high bounce rate, which is also detrimental for your ranking.
You may use low search keywords to get there, and again, this isn’t great SEO practice, if it’s a low search term, that means hardly anyone is using it (usually less than 50 per month), which again means no clicks on your site.
So, how do you get to the top of Google? The answer is, you may not. You can get to page one, but much like a Formula One race, only one person can win. You may all be the best drivers, have the best team and the best car, but only one will pass the finish line first.
